Woosamonsa Woods

Woosamonsa Woods. Acrylic on canvas, 35.5" x 37.5." This painting depicts both the actual location—in a secluded, wooded area of Woosamonsa Road, Pennington, New Jersey-- AND my imagination.  As I sat painting in plein air over a period of time and days, I marveled at how the trees changed. At times a mist enveloped a distant tree, giving it a mysterious aura. I thought of the Lenape Native Americans who had a village in the area, known as the Wissamonson Village. Perhaps they also noticed this mysterious tree and used it for ceremonies.
